Much better you than I.

pacino devil

Something a little different for a change… Started life as a remix, but the backing is predominantly one track, so a mash-up it is. Bonus spotter points if you recognise where the kick and hi-hat are lifted from.

Comments, as always, are very welcome :)

[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by adam and Guy, Eric Kleptone. Eric Kleptone said: New tune: Tool remix finished, but as there's lots of Laura Marling too, a mash-up it is… RT if you like it please :) http://bit.ly/cd2Y5t […]

Well done for the tool mashup, how did you manage those time sigs? Awesome as always my friend!

  3. Alan Wexelblat says:

OK what makes something a remix versus a mash-up, in your view?

  4. Eric K says:

Ah jeez… well, although you could (and should) say that all mashups ARE remixes; in a nutshell, I’d say that a mashup is a piece of music that contains two or more distinguishable (and often recognisable) songs in counterpoint (i.e. not a medley).

A very similar thing in classical music is called a quodlibet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quodlibet)

The above tune started off as a remix using only one guitar riff from the Laura Marling track, but I kept snipping and adding more and more of it, till it became (by the above definition) a mashup.

That do? Feel free to disagree ;-)

  5. Alan Wexelblat says:

Not disagreeing at all. I was just interested in the commentary where you said it started as one thing and became the other. Also, Laura Marling? Did you just give away the bonus spotter points answer?

  6. Eric K says:

Nope! The kick and hat are from something entirely different :)

  7. Bruno Radau says:

    My guess:
Kick and Hat are from Ricardo Villalobos: Enfants
and like ABBA said: Thank you for the music!
    You´re brilliant!

  8. Eric K says:

Alas, that’s not correct (unless RV took them from the same place I did ;), but thanks for the kind words! :D x
