While the cat’s away…

Eric’s in LA, checking out some downtown action prior to Bootie this Saturday at the Echoplex, but the Videotones team march on regardless… This time Instamatic is back, cutting up a metric crapton of different films with a pertinent common thread to make his excellent take on “Mad Groove”:

Is this just desire or the truth?

Who knows… but this is Reborn Identity’s excellently tripped-out re-interpretation of Downtime’s “Untired” – The latest release from The Videotones project.

As always, make sure you watch full screen!

Happy early days of spring in the north-western quadrasphere (or something) to you. More gigs and Videotones news for you – read in!

synthetiquette flyerStraight in with the gigs – frist up, a rather overdue hometown show here in Brighton on Friday 19th March, as part of the Synthetiquette night at The Hope – also playing are Neon Highwire and Officer 82. It’ll be a great way to blow off the cobwebs before we head off to the USA, but get down early as it’s not a huge room!

Second up, speaking of the USA, we’re delighted to be extending our existing Californian excursion into the fine county of Oregon – That’s right, we’ll be touching down in Portland on Friday 26th March for Bootie Portland! Really looking forward to this one as we’ve made some fine contacts in Portland over the years, so it’ll be good to finally hook up!

Not in Portland or Brighton? Whimper not, for here is the next installment of the Videotones project – The director is Brad Mackey of Crappy Logo Productions, who adds a splendidly psychedelic edge to “MKY Da HVN”:

Next Videotones installment! Major thanks to BorisB for nailing this one – seriously awesome job! There’s plenty more on the way, but still room for more collaborators, so get in touch if you want to join in…

So… ultra-pleased to announce the Videotones project, the mission being to create a video for each of the tracks on “Uptime/Downtime“. We’re lining up a diverse array of visual talent, each of whom will be interpreting a track or two in their own inimitable styles. Below you can see Instamatic‘s ace take on “Welcome Back” – huge thanks to him for proposing the project and kicking it off in spectacular style!

More videos will be appearing over the next few months! We’re also on the lookout for more contributors, so if you’d like to participate, please get in touch and let us know – it would be great to have you on board!

The Kleptones – Hiding In The Bayou (extended live jam mix)

Thanks for all the positives on Voodoo Sabotage – Appreciated! – Here’s something that’s fresher than fresh, so new that one of the contributions was only officially released yesterday, and the other is not that old either! Bit of a stylistic departure from previous also – so, come take a ride down the river…

Make no mistakes and switch up my channel…

Quick one! As a taster for the weekend’s festivities in Budapest, we’ve passed Simon Iddol an exclusive mp3 “single” cut of Voodoo Sabotage, which you should already know from the Hectic City “Plinth” mix – now isolated and sent scurrying into the world, especially for you shuffle-heads. You can grab it over at Audio Porn Central!

notting hill carnival

But this is the best one :)

Although there’s tribulations here in Brighton, due to the last minute cancellation of the Beachdown Festival (at which we played our best gig of last year, I think), everyone has rallied round, found venues, pinned down artists and kicked into touch what is shaping up to be one of the best weekends for music and partying this place has seen for a while. And this city pretty much knows it’s onions in that department, y’know?

So, that means for me, a DJ set with my good friends (and yours), Bust The Box, who will be taking over The Gladstone with their sparkly sound system tomorrow from 3pm till as late as they can manage. If you’re in Brighton, get your petard down, because it’s going to be a good one.

Double fun for me, as I now have Monday off (hangover notwithstanding), so will be hiking up to That London, not to DJ sadly, but to drink, eat and be merry at Notting Hill Carnival. First time I’ve been for ages, as I’m usually busy, so I’m chuffed!!!

So chuffed in fact, that in assembling tunes for tomorrow, I’ve prepped a little Carnival-esque / Bust The Box-ish tribute in a digital dubplate style, as they apparently say.

Caper vs DJ C & Zulu – Body Jump (Kleptones box clever mix)

Hope you like it, and have a fucking top weekend, wherever you’re at!
